A top 10 liberal arts college in Asia
As one of the top 10 liberal arts colleges in Asia (Forbes, 2015), Lingnan is committed to providing quality whole-person education by combining the best of Chinese and Western liberal arts traditions, nurturing students to achieve all-round excellence and imbuing them with its core values, and encouraging faculty and students to contribute to society through original research and knowledge transfer.
Student-oriented teaching staff
99.3% of Lingnan's academic staff appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor and above hold doctorate degrees. In addition to research, they place special emphasis on students’ learning and personal development.
High standard of research and academic performance
The results of the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2014 announced by the University Grants Committee (UGC) of the Hong Kong SAR in January 2015 amply confirmed that Lingnan has remained true to its liberal arts mission in providing quality teaching and mentorship to its students, while at the same time, demonstrating a deep commitment to research and scholarship. Lingnan’s outstanding research performance in Business & Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences was internationally recognised. A vast majority of the research submissions made by Lingnan attained “international standing” and above. Some were even judged by international experts as “world leading” standard (4-star) or “internationally excellent” (3-star). In Economics, Lingnan was ranked third among all the eight UGC-funded institutions in its 4-star rating at 13%, which is above the sector-wide 11%, and Lingnan is the only institution which does not have any research output in the “Unclassified” category.
We are among the 700-plus institutions worldwide which have earned accreditation from The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) for our business degree programmes.
With guaranteed accommodation for all non-local degree seeking students, Lingnan is also the only fully-residential university in Hong Kong. Hostel living maximises students’ out-of-classroom learning and promotes the development of personal virtues, mutual respect, tolerance of differences, appreciation of cultural diversity, as well as organisational and leadership skills.
Lingnan is a pioneer in offering service-learning to its students. Service-Learning integrates community service with the students’ curricula and provides a distinctive learning experience for all-round development. It is a graduation requirement for all undergraduate students, thereby signifying the University's commitment to combining community engagement with academic studies and critical self-reflection.
