Brief description: With the sponsorship from the Labour and Welfare Bureau and the Elderly Commission, we jointly co-organized the project entitled "Elder Academy at Lingnan"(EA) with the Office of Service-Learning in Lingnan University and those Lingnan sister Primary and Secondary School. We aim at promoting life-long learning and Active Ageing amid the senior citizens through participating in the programmes. The operation would be supported by NGOs and schools whose students would benefit from joining the activities. EA would try to act as a platform to run and satisfied the requirement of Other Learning Experience(OLE), which would be going to implement in the new academy reform, an exemplary model would be work out for other schools' reference.

Research on Hidden Elderly Service

Brief description: Cooperated with SKH Welfare Council, APIAS has launched one year long study on hidden elderly in Hong Kong. The purpose of this research is to identify the characteristics of hidden elder. Also identification on service gap and approaching method would be our main purpose.

Brief description:  Three focus groups consisting of community leaders, frequent users and professionals were conducted for their opinion and suggestions for the newly designed medical building of Caritas Hospital. The design involved a barrier-free concept which supposedly making free access for people with disabilities. The responses from three groups were pretty consistent in improved transportation from different locations to the hospital, in employing clear signage inside the campus, as well as using volunteers as guides for people who might not be able to read or see.

 

Oxfam Survey on HK People’s Attitude towards Ethnic Minorities

Brief description:  To gauge the general public’s attitude towards ethnic minorities in Oxfam; understand whether there exists a discriminative attitude; identify the sources and channels that the impression towards ethnic minorities formulated; to set a set of baseline indicators/ benchmarks through which Oxfam Hong Kong or other NGOs can be used to measure the improvement of the discriminative attitude after a period of time; and assist Oxfam Hong Kong and NGOs in formulating effective programme strategies in anti-discrimination practice.

Brief description:  Forty young volunteers from Hope World wide who had little chance of contacting old people were sent to do year-end cleaning for forty elderly people’s homes. Their attitude towards elderly people were measured before and after the service. Significant changes were noted even among this self selected group who were supposed to be sensitive to people.
