Saloon Music, also known as "Getan", has been widely popular since the early 1930’s and 1940’s. Back when Hong Kong was a small fishing village, Cantonese Operatic singers were already renowned. They sang across states, provinces and everywhere to make a living, amongst them divas such as Xiao Ming-xing and Xu Liu -xian were of the most influential. Their popularity reached world-wide, and people yearned for their voices, their appeal similar to of modern-day superstars.
The seminar includes not only an in-depth talk of Cantonese Operatic Saloon Music, but also a live concert to exhibit the iconic vocal pieces "Enchanting Dreams" (Feng Liu Meng) and "Another Farewell"(Zai Zhe Chang Ting Liu) that will give every audience a taste of glamour of the Cantonese opera in the past.
