Centre for English and Additional Languages

The mission of the Centre for English and Additional Languages (CEAL) is to enhance the English language and thinking skills of its students, and to provide language support to help students succeed in their academic studies through core and elective courses as well as co-curricular language activities. Within the context of a liberal arts education, CEAL further offers a range of additional language courses (such as Japanese, Korean, Spanish & French) which also introduce students to new cultures.

In addition, CEAL provides students with independent learning opportunities to develop their potential for lifelong learning and for success in the global workplace. Our English Learning Support Service (ELSS) served by 3 Visiting English Tutors (VETs) offer a range of Reading (RAP), Writing (WAP) & Speaking (SAP) Assistance Programmes on a weekly basis. These workshops are designed to support CEAL’s core courses, as much of their content and activities align with the English skills being taught in each course. In addition to these workshops, the VETs also organize a variety of social events throughout the academic year as a way to engage students in English in a more informal setting. Such events include English Cafes, Movie Nights, Game Nights, TEDx Lingnan University events and various outings across Hong Kong.
