Minor in Media Culture and Marketing

( Launch in September 2003)

Basic Information:

Host Department:                Cultural Studies

Contributing Department:        Marketing and International Business

Credit Requirement:           15 credits 
                                                (two required courses and three electives)

Target Students:                  The Minor will be open to all students except the BBA - Marketing Stream students.

Structure of the Programme

This minor programme is built on existing courses from the Marketing and International Business Department and the Cultural Studies Department that are relevant to the proposed programme. New courses may be developed at a later stage.  The structure of the programme is as follows:

 

Required Courses  (6 credits)

CUS 102         Commodity Culture and Everyday Life

BUS 205         Marketing Management


Elective Courses  (9 credits)

Any three courses listed below, at least one from each category*

Category A   (Media Culture and Cultural Economy)

CRE 101         Media - Culture - Creativity

CUS 220         Media Ethics

CUS 310         Media, Culture and Society

CUS 217         Rhetoric of Social Sciences and Business Studies

CUS 309         Film and Cinema Studies

CUS 331         Topics in Cinema and Media Studies

                        (Pre-requisite: CUS309/GEC309 Film and Cinema Studies)

PHI 209           Morality and Markets


Category B   (Marketing Communication)

MKT 201        Consumer Behaviour (Pre-requisite: BUS 205 Marketing Management)

MKT 203        Marketing Research (pre-requisite: BUS205 Marketing Management)

MKT 231         Advertising

MKT 331         Public Relations (Pre-requisite: BUS 205 Marketing Management)
