Our aim is to foster scholarship and collaboration on the human dimensions of environmental change.
Adverse changes to the natural environment are becoming more acute, not least due to rapid economic development and growing material consumption in China and East Asia. Pollution and resource scarcities are consequences of human behaviour. As Hong Kong's dedicated liberal arts university, our faculty are eminently qualified to evaluate and find alternatives to the individual and societal activities contributing to environmental problems.
As part of Lingnan’s
efforts to raise awareness of these issues on and off campus, the
university offers an inter-disciplinary Minor in Environmental Studies for
undergraduates, has founded an Environmental Studies Programme to expand
its research and outreach activities in this area, and promotes student
activities and work with society on environmental issues. Additionally,
the issue of the ‘environment’ is an important component in many of the core programmes and courses within the different faculties. At the
institutional level, as further campus renovation and expansion takes
place, stronger environmental standards and relevant technology are being
incorporated.
