2. Research Grant Council Awards a Public Policy Research Grant to KFCRD for a project on Audience Development
Prof Stephen Chan, Professor of Cultural Studies and Deputy Coordinator of KFCRD, has just received a $390,000 grant through the RGC Public Policy Research Scheme (7th Round) for a project entitled “Audience Development as Cultural Policy in Hong Kong since 1997”. With Prof Chan as Principal Investigator; Dr Wing-sang Law, Dr Lisa Leung, Dr Siu-leung Li (of LU Dept of Cultural Studies), Dr Michael Ingham (LU Dept of English), Dr Jessica Yeung (HKBU Dept of English) as Co-Investigators; and Ms Venus Lam as Senior Research Assistant, this 2-year project (Oct. 2009 – Sep. 2011) will cover case studies of major arts groups, cultural festivals and institutions in Hong Kong.
3. Appointment of Dr Li Siu-leung to CODF Executive Committee
August 2010 - Dr Li Siu-Leung of the Department of Cultural Studies and leader of KFCRD special project in Intangible Cultural Heritage, has been appointed by the Advisory Committee of the Cantonese Opera Development Fund (CODF) as member of the CODF Executive Committee for a 2-year term. Dr Li Siu-leung has been very active in the studies and research on Chinese opera and is the author of Cross-Dressing in Chinese Opera (HKU Press, 2003/2006). In addition to his scholarly endeavours, Dr Li is also a seasoned musician. Trained in flute performance in his early years, Dr Li has played in the Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra and participated in the recording of the album The Yellow River Cantata (Philips416621-1). As member of the CODF Executive Committee, Dr Li will advise CODF on matters related to the administration and management of CODF in the assessment of project applications, monitoring and evaluation of the progress and effectiveness of the projects funded by CODF.
4. Quality Education Fund Awards a $809,700 Grant for a Collaborative Project with 3 Secondary Schools
Awarded to KFCRD in June 2009, this 15-month project entitled “Curriculum Development, Knowledge Enhancement, Pedagogy and Internal Assessment: A Collaborative Project on Teaching and Learning of Liberal Studies in NSS Curriculum” is scheduled to commence in September 2009 when the New Senior Secondary education is introduced. Led by Dr Po-keung Hui and in collaboration with Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School, Queen Elizabeth School Old Students’ Association Secondary School & HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, this project will contribute to the teaching and learning of Liberal Studies in the NSS curriculum and further strengthens our ties with the secondary school community.
5. KFCRD receives Lingnan Internal Research Grants for 4 research projects

6. Crossroads Conference
The Dept of Cultural Studies and Kwan Fong Cultural Research and Development Programme are pleased to be the organizer of the 8th ACS Crossroads Conference. An agreement has been signed with the Association for Cultural Studies on March 12th. Hosted at Lingnan University on June 17-20, 2010, the Crossroads Conference is the largest international conference for cultural studies. This will be the first time for Crossroads to be held in East Asia and it is expected that over 500 scholars from all 5 continents will exchange their scholarly insights at this conference.
7. Cantonese Opera Development Fund awards a grant for symposium on studies of fan culture on Cantonese Opera Star
In March 2009 the Cantonese Opera Development Funds awarded a grant to the Department of Cultural Studies / KFCRD for a two-part symposium on “Fan Culture / Lover Icon: A Historical Reinterpretation of the Artistic Life of Cantonese Opera Star Yam Kim Fai 戲迷文化 / 情人偶像:任劍輝粵劇生涯的歷史再詮釋”. The project is led by Dr LI Siu-leung, Associate Professor of the Department of Cultural Studies.
8. Po Leung Kuk commissions teacher training programme on Liberal Studies to KFCRD﹕
In February 2009 the non-profit organization Po Leung Kuk awards a training project to KFCRD to train teachers from 17 secondary schools under the Po Leung Kuk group after a tender by invitation. The training programme is entitled Professional Development Programme: New Senior Secondary Independent Enquiry Studies in the Liberal Studies Curriculum is led by Dr HUI Po-keung, Associate Professor of the Department of Cultural Studies.
9. KFCRD receives Lingnan Internal Research Grant for 3 research projects
In January 2009, KFCRD is pleased to receive funding from the Lingnan Internal Research grant for 3 projects in the Urban Creativity & Cultures and Cultural Education & Cultural Policy clusters. The 3 research projects are:

10. KFCRD receives grant from the Research Grant Council for project on cultural negotiation of minority youth
This 2-year research project is entitled “Creative Belonging: A Qualitative Study of Translocal Tactics of Cultural Negotiation among Minority Youth” with Dr LEUNG Lisa as Principal Investigator.11. “1000 Women and a Dream” wins the “Women Building Peace” IAWRT Award
"1000 Women and a Dream", a documentary film on the global project “1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005”, wins a biennial award from the International Association of Women in Radio and TV (IAWRT) . It shares the Honorable Mention in Television with two other film directors from Lebanon and South Africa. Gabriella Neuhaus, a woman film director from Switzerland , made this film “1000 Women an d a Dream” to document the process of this global project to nominate 1000 women collectively for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005. The Kwan Fong Cultural Research and Development Programme (KFCRD) of Lingnan University hosts the East Asia secretariat of this project. 117 women were nominated from the China and Mongolia region to go on the list of 1000. "Making Possible the Impossible" and "Let the World See", two documentary films on the process of the project in the China region, as well as on peacewomen in Hong Kong and mainland China, have been produced by KFCRD.
