After the Automatic Updates feature is enabled, the system will install the critical updates everyday at 11:00am (checking for any latest critical patches available and downloading will be performed in the background when the computer is turned on). After the installation is completed, Windows will prompt you with the following message:
Please make sure to save all your work before you select Yes to restart your computer.
2. Norton Anti-Virus
A. You will be able to perform Live Update of the virus definitions by yourself.
To perform a Live Update, please follow these procedures:
i. Double click on the shield icon at the at the lower right hand corner to launch Norton Anti-virus Corporate Edition.
ii. Click the LiveUpdate button.
iii. Click the Next button to proceed.
iv. The program will then connect to the Symantec site to download and install the latest virus definitions.
v. You will be notified when the process is completed. Click Finish to exit LiveUpdate.
B. You can also modify the Scheduled Scans to suit your preference.
i. To modify the scheduled scan, click the + icon next to Scheduled Scans to open the list and select the Scan icon. Then click the Edit button to modify the schedule.
ii. You can modify the volumes/drives to be scanned. (Please do not select network drives except for your home directory i.e. H drive.)
iii. You can also change the frequency/start time of the scheduled scan.
vi. If the computer is not turned on at the scheduled time, the scan will be performed within a pre-configured period. You can modify the settings by clicking the Advanced button on the Schedule tab and change the number of hours of the scheduled time for handling the missed events.
You can also download and install the Intelligent Updater if you need the most up-to-date virus definitions from Symantec. You can get the "Intelligent Updater" from the URL: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download.html
3. Built-in Internet Connection Firewall
If Zone Labs Integrity agent is installed on your PC.
You should not perform the following steps. The following steps are only for those PC with no Zone Labs Integrity installed.
i. The Built-in Internet Connection Firewall will also be enabled for Windows
XP clients. By clicking : Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall, choose ON.
ii. It should be transparent to the users, as no warning messages will be displayed.
iii. Some file transfer features may not work properly after the firewall is enabled, e.g. the file transfer feature in ICQ. If you encounter any problems after the firewall is enabled, please contact our hotline at x7995.
