Softphone
Softphone is a software-based application that can make your PC deliver telephony service through the ethernet network.
University staff can enjoy access their office extension (2616 xxxx) from off campus such as at home or travel overseas. For student residents of hostel, new phone number (3716 xxxx) will be assigned and they can use the number as a normal telephone line at hostel or from off campus.
Softphone Application
You can download the softphone program after you login and complete the registration. The program you are going to get is Cisco IP Communicator which is a Microsoft Windows-based softphone application. It enables computers to function as a software phone, providing high-quality voice calls on the road, in the office, or from wherever users may have access to the University network via VPN.
Information needed for Registration
You are free to use this software if you are a full-time University staff or a valid student resident of student hostel. A pre-assigned telephone number will be provided to hotsel student. The telephone number is valid until you leave hostel. In order to complete the registration successfully, you have to provide the physical address of your PC/Notebook.
