Subject: New ways in Handling Spam Emails
Date: 1 Mar, 2007
Details:

The university-wide anit-spam policy will be changed from the current "tag-and-deliver" approach to a "quarantine" approach.

Details are as follows:

  1. All suspected spam (junk) mails currently labelled as [SPAM:HIGH] and [SPAM:MEDIUM] will no longer be delivered to users mailboxes by default.
  2. All those suspected spam emails will be stored in two centralised quarantine areas of the Sophos Spam Control system.
  3. Instead of delivering suspected spam emails to your mailbox, the system will send you a daily spam summary at 7 am and at 4 pm from sender "sophos-am@ln.edu.hk" and "sophos-pm@ln.edu.hk" respectively.
  4. Users are recommended to check both daily spam summaries. If there are any genuine emails which have been quarantined, you can manually release them.

For release procedures, please see http://www.ln.edu.hk/itsc/ics/user-guides/spam
