Creation of a multi-purpose IT learning environment

  1. To create a large multi-purpose IT learning environment by consolidating three existing open access computer laboratories (MB202, BU220 and SO203), together with the multimedia booths in the Library.  The submission does not request funding for equipment, as all existing equipment will be utilised.  The integrated environment will serve several purposes, such as:
    General IT environment \ Multimedia Production Area \ Cafe \Book Library \ Discussion Rooms \ Consultation Room \ Storage Room \AV system control room.
  2. The two vacant laboratories (BU220 and SO203) will be renovated and facilitated with computing infrastructure for student learning and group discussion.

Installation of lightwave network infrastructure

  1. To install optical fibres for some lecture theatres and a selected open area for the provision of teaching, learning and student activities purposes.
  2. To set up high definition video conferencing and broadcasting infrastructure for the above locations.
  3. To install interfacing fibre infrastructure for high definition inter-university lecturing and online academic consultations.

Campus venues Security Access Improvement (Smart Card)

  1. To improve the security and safety of the physical access at ladies washrooms, hostels, late study rooms, computer laboratories, teaching venues and department offices. The scope of work includes:
    1. To replace or supplement mechanical key door access by electronic or electromechanical devices.
    2. To set up computerized access control system to manage the electronic or electromechanical devices.
    3. To carry out civil work such as construction of conduits and ducts, installation of electrical power supply and UTP cabling, installation of doors and turnstiles, etc.
    4. To set up access control and audit trailing system.
  2. To facilitate students' learning and group studies under the new system, where the scope of work includes:
    1. To set up a system for classroom booking, where students can reserve in advance some available classrooms, tutorial rooms and hostel common rooms for studies or group discussion.
    2. To set up a system for lecture theatre booking, where students can reserve in advance some available lecture theatres for project presentations, seminars or extra-curricula activities.
    3. To set up a system for reserving seats of the Library and late study rooms, in order to facilitate the utilization of study space for students especially during examination period.
    4. To set up a system for reserving seats of computer laboratories, in order to facilitate the utilization of computing and printing resources for students especially during term time.
  3. To achieve energy saving by controlling the lighting and air conditioning system of teaching venues, where the scope of work includes:
    1. To carry out improvement work and integrate the lighting and air conditioning system of teaching venues with the access control system.
    2. To integrate desktop electricity power supply of computer laboratories with the computer laboratory booking system.

Installation of WiFi Infrastructure

  1. To install a fully covered WiFi infrastructure for Lingnan Univeristy.
  2. To upgrade the existing network infrastructure for the deployment of WiFi service.
  3. To integrate the WiFi infrastructure with the VoIP system and the safety control system.

Setting up Disaster Recovery Site

  1. To renovate a disaster recovery site, which is located in a separate building from the main computer room, for hosting and diversifying IT services.
  2. To build a single mode optical fibre cabling system between the disaster recovery site and all other buildings on campus.
  3. To install a management and security system for the disaster recovery site.

  1. To upgrade the existing PBX system to a new system which support Voice over IP, in order to maintain and deliver stable, reliable and value-added voice services.
