How to Set up Wireless
LAN Service for Windows XP |

Wireless networking is
integrated into Windows XP and can be set up quickly with the Windows XP
automatic networking Setup. All you need is an 802.11g/802.11b wireless adapter
installed on the mobile device, and you are locating in one of the coverage
area of Lingnan Wireless LAN service.
Installation the Wireless Adapter
1.
Insert
an 802.11b wireless adapter into your laptop computer’s PCMCIA slot.
2.
An
automatic wireless configuration wizard starts.
3.
After
the wizard completes, your computer is ready to connect to the network.
Connecting to the Network
Windows XP automatically polls
the area for available wireless access points. If you are in the coverage area
Windows XP attempts to connect to it. Since we use a share 64bits Wired
Equivalent Privacy (WEP) Key for providing minimum security level in our WLAN
service. So you need to configure the Wireless Encryption Key manually in your
Client.
1.
Click
Start, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click
Network Connections.
3.
Right-click
Wireless Network Connection and then click Properties. (Diagram

Click
the Wireless Networks tab. (Diagram 2)

Under
Preferred network, Choose Network Name (SSID) LUWLAN and then click Properties.
2.
In
Diagram 3, check in Network Authentication, WEP in Data
Encryption.
3.
Input
swlan in the Network key textbox and re-input swlan in the
confirm Network key textbox.

4.
Press
OK twice to confirm the change.
After
the wizard completes, your computer is now ready to use Lingnan Wireless LAN
service.
1.
In
Diagram 4, you can see the signal strange of the wireless connection.
2.
In
Diagram 5, you can check your assigned ip address if you can connect to the
WLAN service, your ip addresses range from 202.75.73.230- 202.75.73.240.
3.
In
Diagram 6, you can check your DNS server, WINS server and Default gateway
information which is useful for troubleshooting connectivity problem.
