The Department of Chinese (http://www.LN.edu.hk/chi/) offers courses at both bachelor and postgraduate levels. The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree programme includes areas of classical and modern Chinese literature, Chinese language and linguistics, comparative literature and literary theories, as well as media, news and creative writing.
Candidates are expected to be scholars of established international reputation in traditional or modern Chinese literature, or in research topics that could cross over between classical and modern literature. Expertise in the traditional area will be an advantage.
Applicants should have an international reputation in research and substantial teaching experience in the relevant field. The successful appointee will be expected to provide academic leadership in research and teaching, and to contribute to the administration and management of the department. (Candidates with qualifications and experience which are less than those required for Chair Professorship may be considered for appointment as a Professor.)
Applicants are required to provide information on their research records and evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. Administrative experience will be a distinct advantage. The successful appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department and the University community, and to engage actively in quality research and publication.
Conditions of Appointment:
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and incoming passage and baggage for eligible appointee.
Appointment will normally be made on an initial fixed-term contract of three years, renewable subject to mutual agreement. After appointment, accelerated substantiation may be exceptionally considered in the case of appointees with outstanding performance and ability.
