All applicants should have a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language or Chinese Linguistics. Applicants should have at least 8 years’ experience in teaching and developing Putonghua courses, preferably in Hong Kong tertiary institutions, and a good track record of language teaching, preferably to Hong Kong local students at the tertiary level. Applicants should also have a certificate of PSC (Level One) and qualification as National Examiner for PSC. Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment as Language Instructor or Assistant Language Instructor.
Applicants are required to provide information on their evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are essential. Applicants should have substantial experience in organizing extracurricular language enhancement activities and a functional competence in reading and writing English. The successful appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and service to the Department and the University community. Some administrative experience and knowledge of IT developments in language education will be added advantages.
Conditions of Appointment:
The monthly salary ranges are as follows: Senior Language Instructor – around HK$32,000.- to HK$48,400.-; Language Instructor – around HK$24,300.- to HK$42,100.-; Assistant Language Instructor – around HK$19,100.- to HK$27,900.-. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
Appointment will normally be made on an initial fixed-term contract of three years, renewable subject to mutual agreement.
