Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies co-organises AIBSEAR Conference

The 2017 AIBSEAR Conference, co-organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies (HKIBS) of Lingnan University and the Academy of International Business Southeast Asia Regional (AIBSEAR) Chapter, was held from 7 to 9 December 2017 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

 

The theme of the conference is “Sustaining Growth in Emerging Markets amid Aging Populations”.  Prof Cui Geng, AIBSEAR Chapter Chairperson and Professor, Department of Marketing and International Business of Lingnan University and Dr Yingyot Chiaravutthi from Mahidol University International College, Thailand officiated the conference’s opening ceremony.  A total of 77 papers were presented in 23 concurrent sessions.  The conference assembled over 80 scholars and guests from 20 countries and regions including Australia, Canada, Mainland China, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, the UK and the US.

 

Two renowned guests gave keynote speeches in the Opening and Plenary Session.  Dr Wanchat Suwankitti, Director, Public Policy Strategy Office of National Economic and Social Development in Thailand, spoke on “Aging Population in Thailand: The Situation, Government Policies and Initiatives”.  Mr Eduardo Klien, Regional Director of HelpAge International, delivered a speech on “Social and Economic Implications of Population Aging”.

 

In addition, Prof Li Jiatao, Senior Associate Dean, School of Business and Management, and Chair Professor, Department of Management of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, conducted the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) Paper Development Workshop.
