Entrance Requirements

To be eligible for admission to this Programme, candidates should have:

  1. A bachelor’s degree with a good record from a recognised tertiary institution (applicants holding a non-business first degree* have to complete the pre-entry course(s)); or equivalent qualifications and experience, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis; and
    An applicant whose degree or, exceptionally, an alternative qualification deemed equivalent is not from a tertiary institution in Hong Kong or an English-speaking country should obtain a minimum score of:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test);
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): overall band of 6.5;
    • College English Test (CET) Band 6: 450; or
    • an equivalent score in a recognised test / an equivalent qualification to prove his/her English proficiency that will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Interviews may be conducted when needed.

*Applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree and study Economics, Information Systems Management, and Statistics at university level are considered business-related degree holders.

 

Pre-entry Course

Applicants holding a non-business degree are required to take the pre-entry courses in Economics, Human Resource Management and Statistics for a total of 42 hours prior to the start of the Programme. Depending on students’ academic backgrounds, some students are required to take three pre-entry courses while some just take one.  Additional tuition fees will be charged for each pre-entry course. Students may also satisfy the pre-entry requirements by taking equivalent courses from other recognised undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The pre-entry courses usually start about one month before the start of the Programme.

 

Application Period

For the current year intake, application starts from 1 October 2016 to 30 April 2017. Late applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Application Fee

The application fee is HK$350 (payable to “Lingnan University”), non-refundable.


Process of Application

Please note that applications must be sent in paper form by post or via the online application system. Each applicant should submit his/her application through either one channel, but not both. For those who have already handed in his/her application in paper form, he/she should not apply again.

The following supporting documents should be included in the application:

  1. Copies of identity card, passport, or any other identity document(s) of home country;
  2. Copies of certificate(s) of all tertiary education/academic/professional qualifications, e.g. graduation certificate(s)/degree certificate(s);
  3. Copies of academic transcript(s) of all tertiary education/academic qualifications;
  4. Copies of certificate(s)/report(s) (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/CET6) to prove your fulfillment of the English language proficiency requirement for admission (for non-local students graduated from a non-English speaking country);
  5. Two original Confidential Recommendation Forms completed by two referees (downloadable from online application system);
  6. Other supporting documents to substantiate qualifications in your application (for applicant from mainland China, please provide your contact information in Chinese, i.e. full name, residential address and postal code).

Notes:

  • Upon receipt of the admission offer, you are required to arrange to present the official documents to prove your fulfillment in admission requirements.
  • Applicants with degrees awarded by overseas universities by distance learning; or by completion of a curriculum of short duration; or by joint programmes offered byuniversities from Mainland China and overseas,  may be required to provide an assessment report on level of qualification obtained issued by Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).  More details can be obtained at HKCAAVQ’s website at http://www.hkcaavq.edu.hk/en/. The applicants concerned will be notified by our Programme Office if an assessment report is required.

Applicants should send the completed application form, supporting documents and the application fee of HK$350 (please do not send cash, we only accept cheque or money order) in a sealed envelope to MSs HRMOB Admission Office, Department of Management, Lingnan University, Room SEK112/6, 1/F, Simon and Eleanor Kwok Building, 8 Castle Peak Road, Tuen Mun, New Territories, Hong Kong.

Online Application

The online application starts from 1 October 2016 to 30 April 2017. Applicants shall access the online payment gateway attached to Online Application System at http://www.ln.edu.hk/mgt/prog/ and settle the application fee by a credit card (VISA or MasterCard). An application is valid and accepted only when the payment procedure is successfully completed. Only one programme can be chosen for each online application with the application fee of HK$350. Applicants who wish to apply for two programmes offered by other department(s) of Lingnan University shall submit two applications and make two payments.

An acknowledgement email with an assigned application number will be sent to the applicant upon each online payment transaction. The applicant should check with the Admission Officer if he/she does not receive the acknowledgement email.

Two separate Confidential Recommendation Forms should be completed by two referees and be returned to the Admission Officer, MSc HRMOB within two weeks of application / not later than 30 April 2017. The selection process will begin once we receive all application materials and the completed Confidential Recommendation Forms.  Short-listed candidates may be required to attend an interview conducted by the Programme Director or other teaching staff of the Programme.  Normally, application results will be released within two month after the closing date of application.
