Lingnan University Cultural Studies Department Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Lingnan University (the University), Department of Cultural Studies is organizing a series of activities which include international conference, lectures, seminars, cultural activities and book launch in celebration of its 10th anniversary. The Department hopes to share its efforts and achievements in promoting cultural studies in the past ten years with the greater community.
Officiating at the opening ceremony on 6 March 2010, President Chan Yuk-Shee said that since the establishment of the Department of Cultural Studies in 2000, it has made tremendous achievements in teaching, research as well as nurturing young talents. In June this year, Cultural Studies is going to host the international conference Crossroads. It is the first time that the Conference will be held in Asia - another demonstration of the recognition that the Department has achieved in the past 10 years and its commitment in the next decade.
In addition to President Chan Yuk-Shee, Head of Cultural Studies Department Professor Stephen Chan Ching-Kiu and Chair Professor Meaghan Morris, seven guests were invited to officiate at the opening ceremony (listed according to alphabetical order of surname):

Following the opening ceremony, the officiating guests participated in the “Circle Painting the Decade of Cul Photo of the "Circle Painting the Decade of Cultural Studies" activity. tural Studies” activity along with the Department’s teaching staff and students, symbolising the Department’s efforts and vision on community-building and cultural networking in unity and to kick off the series of events.
The Cultural Studies Department places considerable emphasis on critical thinking and creativity in their teaching. In celebration of the 10th anniversary, an exhibition titled “Cultural Studies & Creativity: Exhibition of Students’ Works” is organized from 8 – 19 March to display around fifty creative works of six cohorts of the two Cultural Studies courses: “Narrating Hong Kong” and “Media-Culture-Creativity” . Works of different forms such as installation, model, videos, photographs, essays, performance covering on the themes of disappearing Hong Kong landscapes, people and culture will be presented.
