"Walking with Lingnanians" Fundraising Walkathon 2011

"Walking with Lingnanians" fundraising walkathon 2011 was held today with the participation of over 1,000 students, alumni, teachers, staff and friends of the University. Around $1.7 million was raised in support of the University’s whole-person development programmes.

As the opening event of “Lingnan University Week 2011”, an annual array of activities of the University, the walkathon this year took the route from Tsuen Wan Park to Sham Tseng along Castle Peak Road.

Officiating guests of the kick-off ceremony included Mrs Cherry Tse, JP, Permanent Secretary for Education; Mr Bernard Chan, GBS, JP, Chairman of the University Council; Ms Sophia Kao Ching-chi, SBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of the University Council; Mr Ben Wong Chung-mat, MH, JP, Treasurer of the University Council; Mr Patrick Ma Ching-hang, JP, Chairman of the University Institutional Advancement Committee and President Chan Yuk-Shee.

Mr Bernard Chan said, “Enthusiastic support from Lingnanians and friends for the walkathon this year showcases the camaraderie among members of the University. I strongly believe that the event, together with the efforts of all Lingnanians, could help promote Lingnan University and its liberal arts education to the community.”

President Chan Yuk-Shee thanked Mrs Tse for her participation. He said that each participant of the walkathon was a source of motivation for the University to move forward and achieve the goal of becoming the best liberal arts university in the Asia-Pacific region. He also thanked Chiap Hua Cheng’s Foundation, Mr Kwan Chi-sun, Mr Patrick Ma, JP, Mr Sam Chien-man and Mr Irons Sze, JP, as diamond sponsors and Ms Pansy Ho as gold sponsor of the fundraising walkathon.
