Thirty-four Lingnan University students will work at prominent corporations such as Oriental Dreamworks, Shanghai Media Group and Always (Shanghai) Marketing Services Company Limited in a seven-week internship programme organised by the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, co-organised by Lingnan University and the Hong Kong-Shanghai Youth Exchange Promotion Association from May to July. The programme was officially launched today on campus.

Exclusive for Lingnan undergraduates from all faculties, a distinguished feature of this internship programme is its focus on the leading players of the marketing and multimedia industries, exposing the participants to the fastest-growing sectors in mainland China. This is also the first internship programme for Hong Kong tertiary students in which Oriental Dreamworks participates. Three students, each from the Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences, have been appointed to work there.

The students are excited about their opportunity to work as interns in Shanghai and explore the most populous city of mainland China. Year-three English student Champi Lo, who is going to work at Shanghai Media Group, said, “I have always had a keen interest in the media industry and would like to experience the metropolitan culture of new Shanghai. Both wishes are now fulfilled in this internship programme.” Year-two Chinese student Yuki Yung said, “The media is one of the important sectors in which Chinese graduates work and of course I will seize the opportunity to learn more about it and get better prepared for my career in the future. Staying in Shanghai for more than a month will also allow me to experience life and culture in mainland China. How can I miss this invaluable chance?”

Mr Andrew Yao, Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress and Chairman of the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, said, “The Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association is very pleased to work with Lingnan University for the first time to tailor-make an internship programme for its students. Since I became a Council member of the University, I have been greatly impressed by the flexibility, creativity, enthusiasm for social service and activities among the students groomed by the liberal arts education. I hope this internship programme would provide Lingnan students with an opportunity to explore and gain experience in the creative and cultural industries of multimedia, animation, film and television, video advertising and marketing, so that they can become the top-notch practitioners in these sectors in the future.”

Prof Lee Hung-kai, Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs) of Lingnan University thanked the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association and Hong Kong-Shanghai Youth Exchange Promotion Association for their enthusiastic support for the internship programme. He also encouraged the students to make the best of their hard-earned opportunity to work as interns in leading corporations in Shanghai, “Broadening the horizon and global perspective of students is one of the objectives of our liberal arts education at Lingnan. I hope the student interns will seize the opportunity to learn as much as they can in Shanghai, for both personal and professional development, so that they can accumulate valuable experience to better prepare for the challenges ahead.”

Mr Li Jiyi, Deputy Director of Youth Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR; Mr Alan Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the Home Affairs Bureau and Mr Kenneth Lee, Chairman of Hong Kong-Shanghai Youth Exchange Promotion Association, also attended the launch ceremony today.
