A record-breaking participation of over 1,300 Lingnanians in the Lingnan University Fundraising Walkathon

The sixth “Walking with Lingnanians” Fundraising Walkathon organised by Lingnan University today (25 October) has drawn a record-breaking participation of over 1,300 Lingnanians, with HK$2.8 million being raised in support of the University’s whole-person development programmes.
 
The event was honoured by the presence of Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration as the officiating guest.  Participants, including students, alumni, teachers, staff and friends of Lingnan University, started the walk from Kwun Tong Promenade and proceeded to Kai Tak Runway Park under a festive atmosphere.
 

 

In her address at the Kick-off Ceremony, Mrs Lam said “The Lingnan University has always cherished its motto, “Education for Service”. Over the years, it has been a training ground for whole-person education for members of our community.”

In his welcoming remark, Mr Rex Auyeung Pak-kuen, Council Chairman of Lingnan University expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mrs Lam for joining the event as officiating guest, and to Lingnanians and friends of the University for their unfailing support.  “Over the years, the fundraising walkathon has grown significantly in terms of the number of participants and we are delighted to have gained the staunch support from different sectors of the community.  Such occasion has truly served as a bridge between Lingnan and the community.  At the same time, it is encouraging that the fund raised through this event will benefit students of Lingnan.”
 
President Leonard K Cheng shared with participants that Lingnan University has recently been named one of the “Top 10 Liberal Arts Colleges in Asia” by Forbes, which is a recognition of the efforts of generations of Lingnanians, and has encouraged the University to strengthen its liberal arts education continuously.  “Apart from raising fund to support the University’s development, the aim for organising this fundraising walkathon is to promote the spirit of Lingnan University’s liberal art education in the community,” said President Cheng.
