International Day Lighting up Global Lingnan

28 Oct 2015

Festive atmosphere filled the campus of Lingnan University as the International Day 2015, one of the proud traditions of the University aimed to promote internationalisation and celebrate the beauty of cultural diversity on the Lingnan campus, was held today (28 October).

Carrying the theme of “Lighting up Global Lingnan” this year, international students of Lingnan showcased their traditions and cultures by performances and booths with their amazing talents and creativities.  Just to name a few, there were traditional Pakistan dance, Korean pop dance and singing performance.  Students from 12 different countries shared with teachers and other students their national delicacies, handicrafts and games at their carefully decorated booths.

A major objective of Lingnan’s liberal arts education is to provide students with international exposure and whole-person development, particularly through cultural exchange. The University has entered into agreements with over 160 partner institutions worldwide, covering 36 countries in Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas. In the current semester alone, Lingnan has received 168 inbound exchange students from overseas countries and Mainland China. On the other hand, two out of three Lingnan students are able to go on exchange for a semester during their undergraduate study. Currently, about one-seventh of the University’s student population are non-local full-programme or semester-long exchange students. And 54.7% of its academic staff members are from overseas.
