Lingnan University confers honorary doctorates upon four distinguished individuals

At the 47th Congregation today (24 November), Lingnan University conferred honorary doctorates upon four distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective professions and valuable contributions to the well-being of society. They include Senior Counsel Mr Warren Chan Chee-hoi, who was conferred Doctor of Laws honoris causaProf Lord Anthony Giddens, a world authority in sociology who was conferred Doctor of Social Sciences honoris causa, Senior Counsel Dr Anthony Francis Neoh who was conferred Doctor of Social Sciences honoris causa and Prof Yang Fujia, a nuclear physicist who was conferred Doctor of Science honoris causa.


A total of 880 students were also awarded bachelor’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees and doctoral degrees at the 47th Congregation.
 
In his address, Dr Anthony Francis Neoh expressed deep appreciation to Lingnan University on behalf of the honorary doctorate recipients. He mentioned that each of the recipients has relentlessly pursued knowledge and tried to use knowledge for the betterment of society, which coincide and resonate with the motto of Lingnan University: Education for Service. He also encouraged students to use their education and knowledge to make their society better.

 

In addressing the graduates, Prof Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University, asked them to be a person of value, “By adding value to others, you make your own lives more meaningful and enjoyable. By adding significant value to others, you make your own lives more valuable and successful.” He reminded graduates to try their best to make a positive impact on others and live a life of value no matter what position they will be in.
