Lingnan University hosted the “A Day at University” campus visit for 125 students from 14 primary schools in Tuen Mun today (28 February), which offered primary school students the opportunity to experience university life and liberal arts education at the University’s campus. The activity also served to strengthen the University’s connections with its neighbouring communities.

“A Day at University” was co-organised by the Student Services Centre of Lingnan University, Tuen Mun District Youth Programme Committee and Tuen Mun District Office. The event is an activity under the 2016/17 “Strive for Success” Tuen Mun District Primary Students Award Scheme, which aims to help primary school students experience the real university life, and encourage them to set goals and study hard for the target of studying in a university.

During the half-day visit, participating primary school students attended a lecture on “Sociology” by Prof Chen Hon-fai, Assistant Professor of the University’s Department of Sociology and Social Policy, had tea with Lingnan students during which they interacted with each other, and joined a tour to the campus facilities such as library, gymnasium and student hostels.

In his address at the event’s award presentation ceremony, Mr Kwu Hon-keung, Chairman of the Tuen Mun District Youth Programme Committee, said that the campus visit was organised for the sixth consecutive year, and he expressed his gratitude for the support of Lingnan University and the active participation of primary schools in the District. “The event ‘A Day at University’ allows primary school students to gain more personal experience on learning and daily life on a university campus, which helps broaden their horizon and encourage them to study hard for the goal of studying in a university,” said Mr Kwu.
