Lingnan University receives generous donation to establish the Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit

Lingnan University organised the Naming Ceremony of “Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit” today (11 December) in appreciation of the generous donation of Dr Abraham Wong Tat Chang, Mr David Wong Tat Kee and Mr Samuel Wong Tat Sum in support of the establishment and development of the unit.

 

Lingnan University is committed to promoting liberal arts education and providing diversified opportunities to nurture students’ whole-person development, as well as broaden their knowledge and experience.  As music and performing arts education is an indispensable part of Lingnan’s liberal arts education, the Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit is established with the aims of further enhancing Lingnan University’s liberal arts education and organising large-scale concerts and performances to promote music and performing arts to students and the wider public.

 

In his welcoming remarks, Prof Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University expressed his heartfelt thanks to Dr Abraham Wong Tat Chang, Mr David Wong Tat Kee and Mr Samuel Wong Tat Sum for supporting the development of the Music and Performing Arts Unit.  “We believe that under the atmosphere of music and performing arts education, students’ creative thinking could be cultivated and their understanding on the connection between arts and society could be enlightened.  Our ultimate goal is to nurture leaders who is well-versed in the areas of arts and culture,” said Prof Cheng.

 

In his address, Dr Abraham Wong Tat Chang said they hope to give full support to Lingnan’s liberal arts education and related programme development through supporting its Music and Performing Arts Unit, and to cultivate all round talents and promote music and performing arts activities to the public, so that more people can enjoy the fun of arts.  “Our donation was made even more meaningful because this year is the 50th Anniversary of Lingnan University’s re-establishment in Hong Kong,” said Dr Wong.

 

The “Wong Bing Lai Music and Performing Arts Unit” offers music and performing arts related courses to students, so that they can have the opportunity to pursue career development in related fields after graduation.
