Welcome Message

Welcome to the home page of the Office of Mainland and International Programmes (OMIP) of Lingnan University. 

Lingnan University is the only publicly funded Liberal Arts University in Hong Kong, and is among a handful of liberal arts universities in Asia.  Internationalization, through student exchanges, is an important pillar of Lingnan’s liberal arts mission and education.

Since the establishment of the exchange programme in 2001, internationalization in Lingnan has undergone significant growth.  Today, over 25% of Lingnan students go abroad to study for one credit-bearing semester to gain exposure to different educational approaches, to interact with students of different nations, to learn other countries’ cultures, to enhance language skills, and to enlarge their world view.

Looking into the future, there will be a paradigm shift in how we view internationalization. Internationalization in Lingnan is not about just sending more students going abroad and receiving more incoming students or recruiting more international students. This would be doing the same thing in a slightly enlarged way.  Lingnan espouses the view that internationalization is about creating a multicultural campus environment where people from diverse background could come together to learn, share and experience.  It is about enhancing personal growth, independence, language skills, cultural awareness, confidence and global view in our students while they are overseas and on campus.

For international students, you will find that Lingnan provides a caring and personal atmosphere to pursue rigorous and intellectually challenging academic work. At the same time, international students will find that Hong Kong is an amazing place which remarkably combines both East and West cultures for the most diverse and rich experience. 

There is no greater classroom than the world itself.  So seize the day; take this opportunity to experience our unique liberal arts education and join us to “Engage the World”.
