| Course Assessment |
The assessment for each individual course varies from course to course and is spelled out in the syllabi. Details of the assessment methods and the relative weighting of each component will be given to the students in writing at the start of each course.
Letter grades are used to indicate a student's academic performance in a course.
Grades are awarded according to the following system :

| Progression and Continuation of Studies ( Applicable to the 2009-2010 intakes ) |
A student should be subject to an annual academic review after studying on a programme for a year. A student will not be permitted to progress if his / her Cumulative G.P.A. is below 2.33 at the annual academic review. A student whose Cumulative G.P.A. is below 2.33 in the term(s) before the annual academic review should be issued a warning. The student will be required to lift his / her Cumulative G.P.A to 2.33 or above by the end of the following term, otherwise he / she and will be discontinued from studies.
A student who has enrolled in 8 courses but failed to satisfy the requirements for graduation will be required to pay a fee on a per course basis subsequently.

| Students whose Cumulative G.P.A. falls below 2.33 will be issued a warning and be required to lift it to 2.33 or above by the end of the following term. Those who fail to do so will be discontinued from study. |

| Graduation Requirements |
A student will be evaluated for graduation at the conclusion of the term in which he/she may satisfy all the conditions for award and with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.67 or above.
The student should have fulfilled all graduation requirements stipulated in the programme. For the M.A. in Practical Philosophy, a student must be passed 8 courses and earned 24 credits.
If a student is not allowed to graduate, he/she will be re-evaluated for graduation at the end of subsequent terms. The maximum period of study shall be 4 years. |
| Award of Postgraduate Diploma |
If a student is unable to continue with his / her studies due to financial or other constraints, the student may be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Practical Philosophy provided that 12 credits have been awarded and the Cumulative G.P.A stands at 2.67.
The award of the Postgraduate Diploma is at the discretion of the Department of Philosophy and is subject to the approval of the Research and Postgraduate Studies Committee and the University Senate.
