Fellowship vs Studentship

Applicants for admission to PhD programmes at Lingnan via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme established by the RGC will concurrently be considered for regular places assigned to the University through Postgraduate Studentships (PGSs) awards. Consistent with the emphasis we place on close collaboration with students, our academic experts will be happy to hear from strong potential applicants and to seek to help them develop their ideas for research. Outstanding candidates will be nominated by the University to compete for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme. Those who are nominated but are not finally offered the Fellowship, and those not selected for nomination for the Fellowship, will be given separate consideration for admission as PhD students at Lingnan via PGS awards. The PGSs are awarded to full-time students to support their daily subsistence, tuition fees and other expenses that they may incur during the course of their studies. The monthly stipend for 2011-12 is HK$13,800. The monthly stipend for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowships has been set at HK$20,000/month.
