Pioneering Programme in Hong Kong

MScBIE is the first master’s degree programme in Hong Kong focus on both business innovation and entrepreneurship. The main purpose of the Programme is to allow students a better understanding of the policies, processes, rules and development of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Mainland China.

Covering Different Aspects of Entrepreneurship

This Programme aims to equip students with an understanding of the technological, social, legal and financial aspects of entrepreneurship and the competency in applying the knowledge. The Programme also aims to enable student to gain an understanding of the essential concepts and theories underpinning innovation, and critically analyze issues and key success factors pertaining to innovation development and sustainability.

Capstone Project

This Programme offers a Capstone Project, which provides students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills, and practice how to make plans for new business development. This project will cooperate with various companies with the aim to provide the business environment that can cultivate students’ innovative and critical thinking ability.

Applicants with no or limited background in business will be required to complete two pre-entry courses below:

• Marketing
• Economics

Students need to attend the English courses and seminars provided by the university to meet the graduation requirements and improve their English ability and international vision.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for the award of the Master of Science in Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship offered by Lingnan University (LU), students must, where applicable:

• Complete 7 core courses (21 credits) and 3 elective courses (9 credits) to obtain 30 credits (and other programme or university required learning tasks);
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.67; and
• Fulfil the University exit requirement on English language competency, if applicable; and fulfil all University/programme requirements.
• A student who fulfils all the requirements for graduation shall be awarded a Master of Science in Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship degree with one of the following classifications:

• Students will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship if s/he fulfil the following criteria:
  

  • Complete any four core modules;

     

  • Accumulate at least 12 credits;

     

  • Fulfil the programme’s English exit requirement, if applicable; and

     

  • Achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.33.

Acceptance of this intermediate award implies an intention not to complete the final award.

Scholarships might be considered for outstanding students based on academic merit. All students admitted to the Programme will be automatically qualified for the award of scholarships.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants shall fulfill the minimum admission requirements for taught master’s degree programmes as follows and additional admission requirements set by the programme.

Minimum Admission Requirements

Academic Qualification(s)

• hold a relevant bachelor’s degree awarded by a tertiary education institution recognised for this purpose by the University; or
• have obtained an equivalent qualification; or
• have provided satisfactory evidence of academic and professional attainment.

English Proficiency

In addition to the above, applicants whose degree or, exceptionally, an alternative qualification deemed equivalent from a tertiary institution is not using English as the medium of instruction (MOI) for the programme should obtain:

• a minimum score of 453 (paper-based test) or 46 (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)^{1 2}; or
• a band score of 5.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)¹, or
• an equivalent score in a recognised test, or
• an equivalent qualification to prove his/her English language proficiency which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

¹For IELTS and TOEFL qualifications, the University only accepts results that are within the validity period, viz. 2 years, from the time of submission of an admission application for the specific intake cohort.

²For an applicant using TOEFL “MyBest scores” to fulfill the minimum required score of 46, the programme should use interview or other means to assess the applicant’s proficiency in English.
