To be eligible for entry into this program, candidates should have:

  1. A bachelor's degree in the social sciences or a related discipline from a recognized tertiary institution; or equivalent qualifications and experience, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis; and
  2. In addition to the above, an applicant whose degree is not from a tertiary institution in Hong Kong or an English-speaking country should obtain a minimum score of 550 (paper based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (Internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a band score of 6.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or an equivalent score in a recognized test, or an equivalent qualification to prove his/her language proficiency which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

To apply for the Master of Social Sciences in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP), applicants are required to submit the following application materials throught the online application system:

  1. Completed application form
  2. Personal statement
  3. Two recommendation letters
  4. Copy of academic certificate(s)
  5. Copy of academic transcript(s)
  6. Copy of English language proficiency result(s)

Interviews may be conducted if deemed necessary by the Admissions Co-ordinator and the Program Director. Applicants who have graduated from a university using English as the main teaching language do not normally need to present evidence of their language proficiency. Applicants will enjoy admission preference if they have work experience in social policy formulation, execution or analysis.

Fees, Bursaries and Scholarships:
Application fee: HK$350 (non-refundable/non-referable)
Tuition fee: The tuition fee for the Academic Year 2017-18 is HK$120,000.

The Department of Sociology and Social Policy offers scholarships to outstanding domestic and international applicants. The Scholarship amount will be equivalent to full, half or a quarter of the total IMCSP program tuition fee depending on the student in question. Applicants who receive admission offers will be automatically considered eligible to compete for the IMCSP Scholarship.
