Educational Living Environment
Cooperation with University Officials
Your hostel staffs are University officials. Residents must immediately comply with lawful orders from any University official. Verbal and/or physical abuse directed toward any University staff member will not be tolerated, and may subject the student(s) responsible to disciplinary action.

Hostel / Floor Programming
It has been shown that learning happens outside of the classroom. Living in the residence hostels allows you the opportunity to live and learn with others in your community. Your hostel staff and hostel government are responsible for organising social and educational programs for your enjoyment. The Student Services Centre believes that learning takes place at all times and during every event. So look for the advertisements about upcoming programs and social gatherings. Get involved and have fun.

Noise
Amplified music/noise directed out a window is not permitted. The only exception to this policy is when an all hostel function is held directly outside the building. This should be cleared with your Warden and the hostel government. Any amplified music set up outside must be set at a volume such that only those in the immediately vicinity can hear it.

Quiet Hours
In an effort to create an atmosphere in the residence hostels that is conducive to study, quiet hours will be established in all hostels (from 12am to 7am ). Besides, residents should be cooperated in keeping noise to a reasonable level all the time and students are expected to respond immediately. Before and during finals weeks, 24 hour quiets are observed to facilitate a better study atmosphere. You will receive more information about this as finals week approaches

Roommate conflicts
The Student Services Centre strongly urges roommates to resolve any conflict themselves. Roommates are also encouraged to use the Bill of Right as a means of compromise.
In situation where roommates are unable or unwilling to resolve conflicts, it is the prerogative of the Warden and/or the responsible staff in Student Services Centre to relocate one or both residents to other available residence hostel spaces. This alternative is considered only after residents have tried to resolve the conflict between them, staffs have intervened and the conflict remains unresolved. Relocation will be considered when:
Both roommates are violating each other's right, or
One of the roommates is violating their roommate's right.
Generally, if conflicts cannot be resolved between roommates, it is the responsibility of the student to contact a staff member to issue a formal complaint, for additional staff follow up and disciplinary intervention to occur.
In situations where a student ends up living in a double room alone because of a roommate conflict, the remaining student may be charged a large single rate if that student is unwilling to accept a roommate and/or resolve a roommate conflict. The Warden and Student Services Centre will make this determination on an individual basis. Should any of the persons involved in such a move subsequently be involved in another similar situation, disciplinary action may be pursued.
