Scholarships and Prizes

Introduction

Scholarships and prizes are donated by individuals, private organizations, professional bodies and academic departments. They are awarded to students for their outstanding academic performance.

Most of the scholarships are for full-time undergraduate students.The majority of scholarship recipients are nominated by their respective programmes and departments.For the few scholarships which are open for application by students, Student Services Centre will put up notices and publicize through e-mail from time to time to invite applications.

Scholarships administered by the University and open for application

The awardee must be a registered full-time student of the University in both the last and the current academic year.

Good academic achievement.

If the value of an award exceeds $13,000, the scholarship shall be open for application. This may not apply to some donations where the donor has established an approval procedure, which we have to follow. A Standing Panel of Scholarships will be set up responsible for selecting students for the consideration of donors.

Selection interviews will be convened.

Departmental Scholarships

The awardee must be a registered full-time student of the University in both the last and the current academic year.

For 2nd & 3rd year students:

Good academic achievement in the last academic year.

For new students:

Good academic achievement in the 1st term of the current academic year.

Scholarships

Outstanding Student of Programme Awards

  1. Student of the University in both the last and the current academic years.

  2. Outstanding academic achievement (cumulative GPA that falls within the top 5 per cent) in respective programme in the last academic year.

One student from each of the Arts programmes, Business programmes and Social Sciences programmes is nominated by respective academic dean/ programme director.

The Most Distinguished Student of the

University Award

  1. The awardee must be a registered full-time student of the University in both the last and the current academic year.

  2. Final year undergraduate or postgraduate student

  3. A High level of social awareness
  4. A High sense of belonging and co-operative attitude
  5. Contribution to University life and/or community services
  6. Good academic achievement (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above)
  7. Good character and conduct

Open for application by students. A selection interview will be convened to select the Most Distinguished Student of the University.
