Placement Services for Full-time, Part-time, Temporary & Summer Employment

(A) Career talks / Recruitment functions
Career talks and recruitment functions are carried out through the year to provide opportunities for students to meet their future employers face-to-face. In many occasions, employers are using the recruitment and career talks as a place to assess our students' presentation, eagerness, initiatives and communication skills, as well as our student culture through the meeting.
¡@
In addition, many companies require the Career Services to screen and recommend suitable candidates for their job vacancies. Students are therefore urged to approach our career officers, check out our career programmes notice board, web page and our electronic newsletter Career News regularly for the latest recruitment news and programmes.

(B) Career News
Career and recruitment news are disseminated via our e-newsletter Career News to all current students. Students are also able to view all recent job postings via the Lingnan Portal eGroups.
¡@
A e-newsletter and website in Yahoo! has also been created to disseminate the latest job news and exclusive offers to our graduates and alumni. The list is by invitation only and is restricted to group members. Please subscribe by sending a email to: lussc_career-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.hk, or register through the web: http://hk.groups.yahoo.com/group/lussc_career/. (C) Joint Institutions Job Information System (JIJIS) - web-based job search system

Notes to Non-Local Full-Time Undergraduate & Postgraduate Degree Students:
With the restrictions in respect of internship and part-time employment being relaxed starting this 2008/09 academic year, non-local full-time degree students (excluding exchange students) may take up part-time employment subject to the conditions as set by the Immigration Department. The conditions have also been listed clearly in the "No Objection Letter" issued by the Immigration Department to all successful student visa applicants. Please refer to the Immigration Department's website for detailed information.
Since the University currently has no endorsed curriculum-related internships, non-local students may only seek on-campus part-time jobs during term time. Working hours, however, shall not exceed 20 hours per week, and that any unused hours cannot be rolled over from one week to another. As for summer employment during the period from 1 June to 31 August, there is no restrictions on the work hours / type / location of part-time employment.
For non-local students who will be graduating and wish to work in Hong Kong afterwards, you may wish to visit the Immigration Department's website for more information on the Immigration Arrangement for Non-Local Graduates (IANG).
Since Hong Kong is a Cantonese-speaking dominant city, employers often prefer candidates who can speak and understand the language. Given that most part-time vacancies are service-related, the ability to understand and speak Cantonese will give you an advantage in obtaining interview opportunities and increasing your possibility of getting employed in Hong Kong. Non-local students are therefore encourage to learn the language if you are particularly keen to gain work exposure in Hong Kong.
