Lingnan's Translation Department Joins Hands with Tsinghua
MPhil in Translation

Introduction
The Department of Translation first offered its Master of Philosophy (MPhil) Programme in the academic year 1995-96. The programme may be done on a full-time or part-time basis.

The MPhil Programmes at Lingnan are done by research only. To be awarded the degree, candidates must complete an approved programme of research, submit a written thesis, and successfully defend the thesis in the presence of the designatd examiners.

Admission Requirements
An applicant should normally have the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)* score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or an equivalent score in a recognised English language proficiency test. Under exceptional circumstances, this requirement may be waived subject to the Department Board's approval.

1. Applicants for admission to candidature for the degree of MPhil should normally:

  • hold a relevant first or second class honours degree awarded by Lingnan University or another tertiary education institution recognised for this purpose by the University; or
  • have obtained an equivalent qualification; or
  • have provided satisfactory evidence of academic and professional attainment.
2. In addition to the above, an applicant must demonstrate a sufficient command of the language (Chinese or English) in which the programme of supervised research is to be conducted and the results presented.
