A selection of about 200 artworks, photos and textual documents, selected from a total of 800 artworks - collected by Garden Stream in the “Art in the Camp” project, held at the Whitehead Detention Centre between 1989 and 1991 - were displayed in this exhibition. Workshops focusing on painting, embroidery, music, drama, dance, and writing were held in the camp by local artists. New artworks recreating and reflecting on the complexity of the camp life have also been created for this exhibition. The artworks presented in the exhibition, after further cataloguing, will be archived by the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam. |

Dr. Sophia Law is currently working on a 2-year project, funded by GRF of the UGC, called Invisible Citizens: Art and Stories of the Vietnamese Asylum Seekers and Boat People in Hong Kong. By focusing on the 800 pieces of paintings, fabric works, writings, photographs and documents collected by Garden Streams, the study will explore the role of Art in the asylum-seeking experience of the Vietnamese Boat People that traveled through Hong Kong. Invisible Citizens: Art and Stories of the Vietnamese Asylum Seekers and Boat People in Hong Kong的學術研究。 |
