Visual Studies at Lingnan provides both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. The staff student/ratio at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is excellent and allows for considerable interaction amongst students and staff, both within and outside the classroom. Currently our annual undergraduate intake is 30 students. On average, two or three new graduate students join us per year to pursue either fully funded MPhil or PhD degrees.

Graduate Students have the opportunity to take courses at our sister universities in Hong Kong, as well as at Lingnan. Training as tutors is an integral part of the graduate programme, and all MPhil and PhD students are involved in reasonable amounts of supervised teaching relevant to their particular research interests. To ensure their integration into the Department, our graduate students have both a principal supervisor and a co-supervisor. In Visual Studies we are committed to including our graduate students in as many different research networks and activities as is fruitful. We encourage our graduate students to avail themselves of the University’s support for conferences and field trips, and take an active interest in helping students to identify conferences that will advance their research. Visual Studies at Lingnan has a robust research culture and has, over the past several years, attracted a number of visiting researchers. While some of these researchers have been senior scholars, others have been PhD students from universities abroad. Whether they are with us for three weeks, four months, or longer, these visiting researchers help to create a vital and intellectually stimulating, transnational and international research culture for our graduate students.
