Migrate Course Data from WebCT CE4 to CE8

 

Step 1


Login to WebCT CE4.
Access the course you want to migrate the data from.
Once you have entered the course, click on the 'Control Panel' button.
  
 

Step 2


Within the Control Panel page, click on the 'Manage Course' button.
  
 

Step 3


Within the Manage Course page, click on the link 'Export Content'.
  
 

Step 4


Within the Export Content page, perform the following:

 
  1. Select 'Export course'
  2. Check the option 'Download the content package to my computer after export'. This will prompts for the exported source file to be downloaded to the computer
  3. Finally click on the 'Continue' button
 
 

Step 5


Wait a brief moment while the course contents are being exported.
  
 

Step 6


Once the export process is finished, you will be prompted to open or save the file.
Save the file on your computer to a location of your choice. This way you can use it for importing the content to WebCT CE8 courses later.
  
 

Step 7 (Important)


With the exported source file that you saved in Step 6, you may now follow the below guide to import the course content into your CE8 course.

Be reminded that in step 3 - Assign Course Content, please select Option 3: Import content from file.
 
 

Step 8 (Optional)


Once you have successfully imported your CE4 course content into your CE8 course, you may notice some of the course tools are missing (as shown in red rectangle).

To add back the missing course tools for this course, go to the 'Build' tab. Click on 'Manage Course' and then click on 'Tools' on the right. After that you can select the course tools you want and click 'Save' to confirm.
