First Time User Instructions for Academics

Step 1

Login to Lingnan University Portal.

Click on the 'My Courses' tab and select 'WebCT CE8 and ePortfolio' to access WebCT.

Step 2

'My Lingnan - New WebCT' is the first screen you see within the WebCT. A list of courses that you teach is shown under 'Course List'.

Click on a course to proceed.

Step 3

Before using the WebCT course, a one-time action "Assign Course Content" must be taken. There are 3 options:

Option 1: Set up a blank course
- This is suitable when starting afresh without copying any materials from other courses
Option 2: Copy content from another course
- If you would like to re-use last term's content, select this option to copy content to this new course
Option 3: Import content from file
- If you have a exported CE4 course file, or a learning module ZIP file that exported from another course, you can select this option to re-use the backup file

You will most likely choose Option 1 or 2. If you have assigned course content and would like to change, you can request to reset your course.

Step 3.1 (Option 1: Set up a blank course)

If 'Set up a blank course' was selected in step 3, you will be given the option to add certain tools to the course.

If you are not certain of which tools should be used, click on 'Select All Tools'.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, click 'Save' to complete the 'Assign Course Content' process.

Step 3.2 (Option 2: Copy content from another course)

If 'Copy content from another course' was selected in step 3, a list of courses in which you are enrolled as a designer will be shown.

Select the course which you want to copy the content from, and click 'Continue' to complete the 'Assign Course Content' process.

Step 3.3 (Option 3: Import content from file)

If 'Import content from file' was selected in step 3, a pop-up window will open and you can select the source file for course content import.

If the file is located on your local computer, click on the 'My Computer' icon to browse and select the file on your machine.

Finally click 'OK to complete the 'Assign Course Content' process.

Step 4

The course home page will be presented upon completion of the 'Assign course content' process.

The grey colored panel on the right contains brief descriptions of available tools.

To start building and using the WebCT course, scroll to the bottom of page, click on 'Do not show me this page again' and click 'Done' as shown below.
