About LU

Lingnan University is the liberal arts university in Hong Kong and we have the longest established tradition among the local institutions of higher education. Our history can be dated back to 1888, when our forerunner, the Christian College in China, was founded in Guangzhou, and to 1967, when the institution, as Lingnan College, was re-established in Hong Kong. In 2015, Lingnan University was named as one of the “Top 10 Liberal Arts College in Asia” by Forbes.

The mountain, river, trees and path illustrated in the University logo each symbolise a profound principle:

  • The White Cloud Mountain depicts the highest aspiration in life;
  • The Pearl River represents the wide dissemination of Lingnan education;
  • The lychee trees - with ripe fruit hanging in clusters - represent the commitment to realise the precept "For God, for Country, and for Lingnan";
  • The path represents the road to the future by virtue of hard work;
  • The "vibrant-red" and "iron-grey" colours of the logo symbolise integrity and loyalty.
