Programme and Study

Q1. What is the duration of the Programme?

The normal duration for the Programme is one year full-time and the maximum period of study is three years. Teaching normally begins in late August and ends in May. Students who are required to attend the pre-entry course(s) will normally take the course(s) from late July– prior to the beginning of the new academic year.

Q2. When is the application period for next academic year?

The application generally begins on 1 October and closes on 30 April of the following year. Late application may be considered if spaces are still available.

Q3. What is the tuition fees per year?

The tuition fees for the academic year 2024-25 is HK$218,000 for local student and HK$300,000 for non-local student.

Q4. What is the commencement date of the MAcc classes?

Usually the commencement date of the MAcc classes is late August to early September.

Q5. What is the time and venue of classes?

The MAcc classes will normally be held on weekdays or Saturdays at Lingnan campus. For the pre-entry courses (which will normally be offered from mid-July to late August), class meeting times and venues will depend on student enrollment. A formal announcement will be made prior to the commencement of the courses.

Q6. What is the language of instruction for the courses?

English (unless otherwise indicated in the course descriptions).

Q7. What is the course structure?

The full-time MAcc is a credit-based programme. All courses in the programme structure are designed on the basis of three-credit units. The normal duration for the full-time MAcc programme is one year and the maximum period of study will be three years from the date of first registration.
Students are required to complete six required courses (congruent to the Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy curriculum) in the first semester.
Upon successful completion of the 18 credits in the first semester, students are eligible to proceed to the second semester.  Students are required to complete the five courses (15 credits), one required course and four elective courses, in the second semester. Upon completion of these five courses and achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.67 or above, students are granted Master of Accountancy degrees, subject to the satisfaction of University graduation requirements.

 

Application for Admission

Q8. What is the admission requirements for the MAcc programme?

To be eligible for entry into Master of Accountancy, applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution; or have other qualifications and experience, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in a non-business discipline from a recognized tertiary institution have to complete and pass a pre-entry programme prior to their formal admission to the MAcc programme. The number of pre-entry courses required to take by an applicant will depend on his/her undergraduate study. Applicants will enjoy admission preference if they have related working experiences or have professional qualification in accounting, auditing, taxation or finance.

Q9. What is the language requirement?

As teaching will be normally conducted in English, an applicant whose undergraduate degree is not from a tertiary institution in Hong Kong or an English-speaking country should meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement below:
- IELTS: minimum acceptable score of 6.5 or
- TOEFL: minimum acceptable score of 550 (paper-based test) or 79 (internet-based test) or
other equivalent English qualifications to be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants who have graduated from a university using English as a main teaching language do not normally need to present evidence of their language proficiency.

Q10. Can I update my TOEFL / IELTS and additional documents after my online submission?

Yes, after completion of your online submission and payment, you still can submit any additional supporting materials by email to: [email protected] and send the original copy of recommendation letters by post on or before the application deadline.

Q11. How to submit the application?

Applications to MAcc programme should be submitted via the University's Online Application System here.

Q12. Will I be required to attend an interview?

The selection process will begin as soon as we receive your completed application materials and confidential recommendation forms. Applicants may be required to attend an interview (via online) conducted by the Director of Taught Postgraduate Programmes Office and one more faculty member.

 

Others

Q13. I cannot process the online submission or e-Payment and the system has rejected my submission, why?

It may be the firewall problem, if so, you may need to use another computer or other computer network to try again.
Or you may have chosen a wrong “document type” when uploading your ID card/passport or transcript/certificate online. If so, you need to remove the files and re-upload the file again by choosing the correct document type online.

Q14. How can I apply for the programme scholarship?

No separate scholarship applications are required. Students will automatically be considered for various types of the scholarships based on their academic merits and services.

Q15. Can I apply for accommodation in the University?

The Programme Office will inform the students with hostel details in due course.
