BA (Hons) in Translation, Cross-cultural Studies, and Corporate Communication (Self-financed) (Senior Year Entry) Overview

Aims of the Programme

The aim of this programme is to provide a challenging bilingual education to students, which will enable them to develop:

  • their oral and writing skills so they will serve as effective and responsible intermediaries between texts and speakers in English and Chinese;
  • their capacity to make independent and objective judgments, which are necessary for language specialists or employees in leading positions in government, business, industry and a wide range of other professions; and
  • a better understanding of their place in Hong Kong’s bilingual community and of the roles they will play in serving that community.

Admission Requirements

The programme is designed for students who are qualified to enroll in full-time senior year levels (i.e. third and fourth year of undergraduate studies) in the Faculty of Arts. Applicants should generally be holders of at least an Associate Degree or Higher Diploma in Translation and Interpretation, Bilingual Communication, Chinese / English Language and Literature, Chinese / English for Professional Purposes, Cultural Studies and other Arts and Humanities programmes.

Programme Structure

The programme structure is identical to the current 4-year Curriculum of  Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Translation, Cross-cultural Studies, and Corporate Communication programme. Please refer to the following website for further information:

Students admitted into this programme will be designated as Year 3 students of the undergraduate programme upon admission, provided that they can get credit transfer of 54 credits or more. They may apply for additional credit transfer/course exemption under the provisions of the Academic Regulations. Upon successful application for credit transfer of Years 1 and 2 courses, the student is expected to meet the remaining requirements in the Years 3 and 4 programme structure in order to fulfil the combined 120 credits.
