Update on teaching arrangements, work arrangements and vaccine pass

In view of the recent development of the COVID-19 pandemic in Hong Kong, the University has decided to adopt the following teaching and work arrangements with effect from Monday 7 February 2022 until further notice:

Teaching arrangements
Hybrid mode of teaching will be adopted. Subject teachers should conduct their classes at designated teaching venues on campus and time-slots according to the timetable, and broadcast the lessons online simultaneously. They will be responsible for dividing each of their classes (except students who are not physically in Hong Kong) into two equal halves to attend face-to-face and online lessons on alternate weeks. They may split their classes according to the alphabetical order of students’ last names, but are free to exercise flexibility in forming the two alternating groups so long as the groups are roughly equal in size.

To maximise teaching and learning quality while minimising large group meetings in classrooms relative to the size of the rooms, students in Hong Kong will be required to attend face-to-face lessons by rotation on alternate weeks for ALL classes regardless of class size as long as hybrid teaching and learning remains in force.  

All staff and students are required to wear a face mask in classrooms at all times. Eating and drinking are prohibited in classrooms. Subject teachers are advised to facilitate fresh air flows where possible, keep classroom windows and doors open as appropriate, and allow breaks of no less than 15 minutes during long lessons. Air conditioning in classrooms is NOT to be turned off and students are advised to bring warm clothes as necessary.

Work arrangements
Subject to the maintenance of essential services, Heads of departments/offices/units may exercise discretion in making work arrangements according to job duties of their units as appropriate, including staggered lunch hours, flexible working hours in consideration of the personal circumstances of individual colleagues, and under the condition of maintaining essential services in support of hybrid teaching and learning in arranging some colleagues to work from home by rotation.

Vaccine Pass
With reference to the Government’s implementation of the Vaccine Pass, the University will implement the same arrangement on campus starting from Thursday 24 February 2022. All persons entering the LU campus will be required to have completed their first dose of vaccination by 24 February, and the second dose by 21 April 2022. Those who are medically unsuitable for vaccination are required to obtain an Exemption Certificate issued by a registered doctor, and conduct recognised COVID-19 viral test once every three days.

Implementation details of the Vaccine Pass will be announced in due course. Students and colleagues are urged to get vaccinated before the implementation. Please refer to the following website for vaccination information and booking: https://www.covidvaccine.gov.hk/en/.

You are strongly advised to maintain appropriate social distancing from others and avoid unnecessary gatherings, especially during the Chinese New Year holidays. Please stay on high alert and observe the latest preventive measures recommended by the University’s Health, Safety and Environment Committee (https://www.ln.edu.hk/hse/notice).
