What is Gerontechnology?
Gerontechnology is a multidisciplinary field combining gerontology and technology, it comes matching technological environments to various facets of an ageing population.
With the development of technologies, such as the invention of the Internet, robotics, big data analysis and cloud computing, the Government and different enterprises can develop innovative products to cater to the needs of the elderly.
These products can help the elderly to regain autonomy, to provide instant health check, to ensure home safety, to enhance rehabilitation and to engage in the community, increasing their quality of life and self-care abilities.
At present, Gerontechnology in Hong Kong supports older people’s daily needs and reduces caregiving burden by combining elderly services and innovative technology.
Common Gerontech products include Anti-Wandering Systems, Lifting Aids, Robots and Artificial Intelligence, etc.
