Gerontechnology for better Living

Nationally, the population is ageing. In Hong Kong, by the year 2039, 31% population will be aged 65 or above.

Meanwhile, life expectancy is growing for both men and women. In response to the rise of the ageing population and the needs of ageing in place, the HKSAR Government and different sectors in the community have been actively promoting Smart Ageing and Gerontechnology to tackle the ageing issues in the hope to benefit the elderly and their caregivers while turning these challenges into innovative opportunities.
Ageing of society represents one of the significant challenges for the 21st century, different countries need to stimulate new thinking, solutions, and approach of collaborations for ageing well.
Currently, the Hong Kong government is promoting to use gerontechnology as a part of the solutions and allow the elderly to stay active in the community with the support of technology. Innovation for present and future generation are developed to support the health and care delivery of the future.
Under the "LU Jockey Club Gerontechnology and Smart Ageing Project", we will organize this 54-hour startup competition and workshops to target new and great ideas for the smart ageing.
The ideas may cover the interface of gerontechnology, technological innovation for smart home, mobile applications, service designs, dining, e-health and wellness solutions, transport etc.
Our hope is to work with participants for the most exciting innovations and to mobilize different stakeholders to co-create new solutions for better ageing.
** We will bring this network together in a 54 hour hybrid mode Techstars Startup Weekend to develop prototypes which will contribute to solving the challenges of population aging.**
