In the 1960's, Richard O'Barry was the world's leading authority on dolphin traning, working on the set of the popular television program Flipper. Day in and day out, O'Barry kept the dolphins working and television auidences smiling. But one day, that all came to a tragic end. THE COVE, directed by Louie Psihoyos, O'Barry and an elite team of activsts, filmmakers and free divers embarked on a covert mission to penetrate a hidden cove in Japan, shining light on a dark and deadly secret. The mysteries they uncovered were only the tip of the iceberg.

《海豚灣》揭露日本和歌山縣東牟婁郡太地町(Taiji)當地漁民每年屠殺約23000隻海豚的事實，這個數量約是過去日本每年捕殺南極地區鯨魚數量的三倍，並差不多等於全日本捕殺海豚的總量。

導演路易·賽侯尤斯，是前國家地理雜誌攝影師路易·賽侯尤斯，在2007年為了拍攝本片，使用了水­下麥克風，並將高圖元攝影機偽裝成石頭進行暗中拍攝。
