Introduction:

The introduction of Western paintings to Hong Kong can be dated back to early 19th century. From the 1940s to 1950s, Western paintings had its golden time in Hong Kong. Many artists who used to study overseas settled in Hong Kong. They opened their own studios, recruited apprentices, and established art communities. The various kinds of activities about Western paintings had great influence to local painters at the time. Li Bing, Yu Ben, Chen Fushan among others, not only made the effort to nurture young artists, but also bring together local Chinese and foreign artists by holding art events. The speaker will introduce those artists' works and tell the stories of the art communities in the 1950s.
