聚焦探讨新冠疫情的相关研究

 

Research cluster puts Covid issues in the spotlight

 

随着新冠疫情的庞大规模和严重性逐渐浮现,岭南大学(岭大)的学者迅速作出回应,开展了一系列相关的研究项目。

 

他们知道研究疫情对社会不同领域长期影响的重要性,并且需要更认真地理解疫情对正常生活的干扰。

 

他们尤其意识到这是一个进行跨学科研究的黄金机会,不仅要探讨疫情的直接影响和应对方式,还要研究家庭、学童、大学生以及失业人士所面临的挑战。

 

从疫情早期开始,有几项发展是清晰的。经济停滞将对许多人的生计带来重大影响。而且,无论转向在线教育和严格的社交距离等措施持续多久,都将不利于社会大众的身心健康。

 

这些都是需要研究的重要领域,也是岭大专注研究新冠疫情及其后果而成立的相关项目的基础范畴。

 

被批准的研究项目也可以直接与联合国17个可持续发展目标中的一个或多个联系起来,这些目标为21世纪的全球发展和人道主义事项制定了明确的框架。

 

可持续发展目标的内容广泛而重要,除了比较突出的目标包括消灭贫困、良好的健康和福祉,以及高质素的全民教育,也包括其他方方面面的必要目标,从体面工作和经济增长到减少不平等现象、气候行动、可持续城市和社区以及第17项关于伙伴关系的目标。

 

作为一所提供优质博雅教育的领先大学,岭大已作出坚定的承诺,在往后的日子推进这些原则。

 

这个承诺可以在岭大以下的行动中看到:课程发展、提供新课程选择、学术交流、安排特别活动促进知识转移、设计社会参与项目帮助弱势社群、支持初创企业的创业举措、以及大学在管治和行政方面的取向。

 

除此之外,各部门提出的研究项目亦体现了大学在这方面的承诺。在取得岭大或外部的研究资助后,许多研究项目都成功地影响了大众的看法,激发了富有成效的辩论,并在研究结果发表后获得了国际学术界的认可。

 

其中最好的例子是数个属于与新冠疫情相关的研究项目,它们能够详细展示疫情如何影响香港不同层面的生活,并且就有效的长期应对措施作出建议。

 

每个项目都得到了岭大研究委员会拨款资助,该委员会最近在评估研究项目时,特别关注项目对现实世界的意义、其与可持续发展目标的关联,以及与其他院校发展伙伴关系的潜力。

 

例如,一项进行中的研究正在探讨学校校长、管理团队和教师在新冠疫情期间的个人福祉和健康信息素养。

 

在研究生院柏墨(Padmore Adusei Amoah)教授的领导下,研究人员专注探讨一个往往被忽视的问题,即在组织在线课程并处理所有额外复杂情况时,学校各级人员无可避免要应对的额外负荷。

 

到目前为止,大部分的公众讨论都是关于这些变化对学童和家长的影响,以及在线学习的优点或缺点。但显然,教师和校长的观点,以及他们遇到的困难也需要类似的考虑,特别是如果当局认为不同年龄的年轻人未来的学习将会采用更多的线上或混合学习。

 

另一个研究项目由研究生院的刘嘉慧教授和社会学与社会政策系的Stefan Kuehner教授共同负责,涉及一项关于新冠疫情期间儿童福祉的国际调查。

 

值得注意的是,调查发现香港儿童的总体排名较低,并对“时间运用” 和“被成年人倾听”这两个项目最表不满。对于任何关心年轻人福祉、以及希望帮助年轻人重新获得稳定感和参与感,使他们能够茁壮成长的人来说,这个调查显然有重要的启示。

 

社会学和社会政策系的Gizem Arat教授进行的另一范畴的研究一直在探索如何协助香港的弱势少数民族预防新冠疫情。而管理学系的王楠教授和陈弋风教授正展开一项关于新冠疫情对医生和护士影响的研究。

 

毫无疑问,随着香港沿着自己的道路对抗新冠疫情,放宽限制,并全面恢复其作为贸易、金融和旅游中心的地位,许多新的研究角度将会出现。

 

对于岭大的学者来说,他们的目标是在新冠疫情相关研究中扮演有影响力的角色,并指出哪些领域需要采取更快的行动和更好的应对方案。
