Dr. Chen obtained her P.h.D. degree in Sociology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She joined Lingnan University in September 2022. Prior to that, she worked as Research Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Fellow at the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, CUHK. She was a recipient of the Harvard-Yenching Institute Fellowship and was a visiting fellow at Harvard University from 2013-2014. Her research interests include social determinants of health, mental health, substance abuse, health communication, and health inequality. She received the Asian Journal of Criminology Best Article Award in 2021 for the article "School Characteristics, Strain, and Adolescent Delinquency: a Test of Macro-Level Strain Theory in China" (co-authored with Dr. Yuet-wah Cheung).
