This domain develops students’ healthy lifestyle, physical well-being and recreational leadership. It encourages students to recognize the need for regular physical activity and develop lifelong interests in sports activities. Furthermore, physical well-being content will cover health science knowledge, including medical self-care and illness prevention. Programmes include ball games, water sports, physical fitness, martial arts, first aid and leadership training.

2. Practice the standard moves of playing badminton (e.g. grip, footwork and serving); and

Description:

Badminton is a fairly easy game to learn and fun to play casually and competitively. Basic badminton skills include learning how you hold the racket, serve the shuttle and move your feet. You can practice drills to improve your game. Rules and scoring are established for singles and doubles games.

Description:

Basketball originated in 1891 at Springfield College in the United States. During the cold winter, it started with people shooting the football into the basket of peaches as an indoor games, and named the game as Basketball. Apart from training and strengthen the body, playing basketball can also cultivate team spirit.

Description:

Lacrosse is a team sport played between two teams. Each player has a long handled stick with a net called a lacrosse stick or a crosse. Players use this stick to pass, catch and cradle a small rubber ball and the objective of the game is to outscore your opponent by shooting the ball into the opponent's goal.

Description:

Football is one of the most popular and influential competitive sports in the world. It helps people training their body coordination and footwork. In addition, it has a very high demand for fitness and team work.

1. Describe the safety guidelines and rules of squash matches;
2. Practice the standard moves of playing squash (e.g. how to serve and make forehand or backhand stroke) ; and
3. Develop interest in participating the squash game.

Description:

Squash originated in England in the mid-19th century, and it is named after the state in which soft balls were beaten and deformed. As the narrow range of activities is surrounded by four walls, there are specific requirements in terms of equipment, rules, and swings to ensure the safety of oneself and the opponent.

Description:

Table tennis originated in England at the end of the 19th century and evolved from the move of tennis to the dining table. Table tennis is a skill-based and less physical-required sport, which makes it suitable for being a life-long choice of doing exercise.

Description:

Tennis originated in the 14th century French "court game". The tennis tournament has a large audience, and the four Grand Slam tournaments have received particular attention, which is now one of the Olympic events.

Description:

Volleyball originated in the United States in 1895. The game is played by two team of six players, with up to six substitutes allowed in a squad. During this course, students learn the elements of serving, passing, spiking, and blocking volleyball.

Description:

Woodball is an outdoor sport that allows the wooden ball to flip upwards through the goal with a club and originated in Taiwan. The woodball game combines the swing of golf club and putter of gateball club principle. This exercise can train the physical coordination and eyesight.

Objectives:
At the end of the activity, students will be able to:

1. point out the safety guidelines and training theories of lifting;
2. practice the most suitable sets of training and lifting equipment; and
3. Establish regular exercise habit.

Description:

Bodybuilding is special and personal. This course is designed to teach students to understand the methods of training the body muscles and theories of controlling weight. The tutor will lead the students to practice different training procedures in response to the individual needs and abilities of the students. After completing this course, students are qualified to use the university’s fitness room.

When practicing yoga, a high concentration is required to get the students to put aside the annoying trifles and put themselves into it to ease the stress of life. This class is suitable for students who have never been exposed to yoga.

Description:

This course aims at teaching formal Olympic boxing, through learning boxing technique, it enables students to have their muscle fully used, hence increase their cardio and muscular endurance.

Description:

There are three weapons in modern fencing: foil, épée, and sabre. This course mainly focus on foil, with introducing differences on rules, scoring system, weapons used in practice and game of other two weapons.

Description:

Judo is a Japanese martial art developed in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. As long as grasping the core skills of softness and using of strengths, even the girls or the small students can bring this into play.

Karate is a martial art developed in the Ryukyu Kingdom, after annexation with Japan in 1879, it made known to public. This course designed to teach the two core skills of Karate, Kumite (Free Flight) and Kata (Pattern), thus to learn about the skill of using strength and strategies.

Taekwondo is a set of self-defence techniques developed by ancient Koreans. This course designed to teach basic forms and footwork, and through systematic training to learn different skills and self-defence techniques, while enhance cardio endurance and improve the agility and accuracy of thinking.

Ving Tsun originated in China, well known for its quick arm and strong leg movements, also the performance of techniques in a relaxed manner. Through systematic training, students are able to grasp the core value of Ving Tsun in a short period of time, maintain the physical fitness and learn self-defense.

Description:

Cha Cha Cha is one of the Latin dances originated in Cuba, with its 4/4 rhythm. Teacher will in response to students’ interest and ability, to adjust the syllabus. Students may also propose their idea and decide the teaching schedule.

1. Understand the coaching skills in Lacrosse;

3. Obtain the Instructor Certificate issued by The China Hong Kong Lacrosse Association.

Description:

The instructor certificate course of The China Hong Kong Lacrosse Association (HKLA) is the first step to become a Lacrosse coach. The current certificate course is tailored made for Lingnan students. Students with limited Lacrosse experience are welcome. After completing the course, students will be offered with the certificate and 1-year membership of HKLA. Outstanding students will be recommended for part-time assistant coaching job.

1. Understand the theory of First Aid;
2. Practice bandaging and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation(CPR); and
3. Cultivate confidence while facing crisis.

Description:

This course is divided into three parts: first aid theory, bandaging and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Upon completion of the course, students with an attendance rate of 80% or above will be allowed to take the exams arranged by the Hong Kong St. John Ambulance. Students who pass the examination will be awarded a certificate. Having first aid knowledge can save yourself and also save people in need, it is a skill worthy to learn.
Enrolment will be announced in Apr 2024.

Menstrual pain is a common problem that many women experience every month. The discomfort will make them suffer such as sweating and turning weak. In the Traditional Chinese Medicine, pain is due to the blockage of “Qi” flowing in the body. This talk will reveal the Traditional Chinese Medicine tricks to help alleviate Period Pains. The talk will be conducted in Cantonese.

Description:

The workshop offers an innovative and immersive experience designed to provide students with a unique perspective on accessibility and the potential of technology to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities. Participants, seated as if in wheelchairs, will engage in virtual sports, fostering empathy and awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. The workshop also includes a design thinking session, where wheelchair users share their experiences, followed by group exercises to brainstorm innovative accessibility solutions. This interactive workshop aims to inspire creative thinking and collaborative problem-solving to improve quality of life for people with disabilities.
