聚焦探討新冠疫情的研究集群

 

Research cluster puts Covid issues in the spotlight

 

隨著新冠疫情的龐大規模和嚴重性逐漸浮現,嶺南大學(嶺大)的學者迅速作出回應,開展了一系列相關的研究項目。



他們知道研究疫情對社會不同領域長期影響的重要性,並且需要更認真地理解疫情對正常生活的干擾。



他們尤其意識到這是一個進行跨學科研究的黃金機會,不僅要探討疫情的直接影響和應對方式,還要研究家庭、學童、大學生以及失業人士所面臨的挑戰。



從疫情早期開始,有幾項發展是清晰的。經濟停滯將對許多人的生計帶來重大影響。而且,無論轉向線上教育和嚴格的社交距離等措施持續多久,都將不利於社會大眾的身心健康。



這些都是需要研究的重要領域,也是嶺大專注研究新冠疫情及其後果而成立的研究集群的基礎範疇。



被批准的研究項目也可以直接與聯合國17個可持續發展目標中的一個或多個聯繫起來,這些目標為21世紀的全球發展和人道主義事項制定了明確的框架。



可持續發展目標的內容廣泛而重要,除了比較突出的目標包括消滅貧困、良好的健康和福祉,以及高質素的全民教育,也包括每事每物的必要目標,從體面工作和經濟增長到減少不平等現象、氣候行動、可持續城市和社區以及第17項關於夥伴關係的目標。



作為一所提供優質博雅教育的領先大學,嶺大已作出堅定的承諾,在往後的日子推進這些原則。



這個承諾可以在嶺大以下的行動中看到:課程發展、提供新課程選擇、學術交流、安排特別活動促進知識轉移、設計社會參與項目幫助弱勢社群、支持初創企業的創業舉措、以及大學在管治和行政方面的取向。



除此之外,各部門提出的研究項目亦體現了大學在這方面的承諾。在取得嶺大或外部的研究資助後,許多研究項目都成功地影響了大眾的看法,激發了富有成效的辯論,並在研究結果發表後獲得了國際學術界的認可。



其中最好的例子是數個屬於新冠疫情研究集群的項目,它們能夠詳細展示疫情如何影響香港不同層面的生活,並且就有效的長期應對措施作出建議。



每個項目都得到了嶺大研究委員會撥款資助,該委員會最近在評估研究項目時,特別關注項目對現實世界的意義、其與可持續發展目標的關聯,以及與其他院校發展夥伴關係的潛力。



例如,一項進行中的研究正在探討學校校長、管理團隊和教師在新冠疫情期間的個人福祉和健康素養。



在研究生院柏墨(Padmore Adusei Amoah)教授的領導下,研究人員專注探討一個往往被忽視的問題,即在組織線上課程並處理所有額外複雜情況時,學校各級人員無可避免要應對的額外負荷。

 

到目前為止,大部分的公眾討論都是關於這些變化對學童和家長的影響,以及線上學習的優點或缺點。但顯然,教師和校長的觀點,以及他們遇到的困難也需要類似的考慮,特別是如果當局認為不同年齡的年輕人未來的學習將會採用更多的線上或混合學習。



另一個研究項目由研究生院的劉嘉慧教授和社會學與社會政策系的Stefan Kuehner教授共同負責,涉及一項關於新冠疫情期間兒童福祉的國際調查。



值得注意的是,調查發現香港兒童的總體排名較低,並對 「時間運用」 和 「被成年人傾聽 」這兩個項目最表不滿。對於任何關心年輕人福祉、以及希望幫助年輕人重新獲得穩定感和參與感,使他們能夠茁壯成長的人來說,這個調查顯然有重要的啟示。



社會學和社會政策系的Gizem Arat教授進行的另一範疇的研究一直在探索如何協助香港的弱勢少數民族預防新冠疫情。而管理學系的王楠教授和陳弋風教授正展開一項關於新冠疫情對醫生和護士影響的研究。



毫無疑問,隨著香港沿著自己的道路對抗新冠疫情,放寬限制,並全面恢復其作為貿易、金融和旅遊中心的地位,許多新的研究角度將會出現。



對於嶺大的學者來說,他們的目標是在新冠疫情相關研究中扮演有影響力的角色,並指出哪些領域需要採取更快的行動和更好的應對方案。
