The supportive teaching and learning environment at the Visual Studies programme, which center on productive discussions and supervision, was an important factor that enabled me to develop my academic skills and enhance my understanding of the career paths available for young academics.

I spent three fruitful years as a PhD student at Lingnan University and I am happy to have been part of the team at the Visual Studies programme. During my postgraduate studies, I was provided with constructive academic and institutional support that enabled me to conduct my project in the intersection between film studies and creative media industry research. In my case, the university’s willingness to support fieldtrips as well as conference participation was instrumental in my effort to develop and complete my research project.

I appreciate the opportunity to have been part of a community that emphasizes close connections between academic staff and students. I had the pleasure of working as a hostel tutor, which gave me additional insight into life of local students ─ an experience that truly enriched my understanding of life in Hong Kong society. Overall, the supportive teaching and learning environment at the Department, which center on productive discussions and supervision, was an important factor that enabled me to develop my academic skills and enhance my understanding of the career paths available for young academics.
